By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) enters Week 2 with three games on the schedule, headlined by Friday night’s game in Belmopan where the Trojans host the San Pedro Tiger Sharks—two teams that opened the season with victories.
Belmopan defeated the Corozal Spartans 80–74 at the UB Gymnasium behind standout performances from Jevaughn McKenzie and Jarrel Velasquez. San Pedro, meanwhile, rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Cayo Western Ballaz 91–85, powered by Edward Hampton’s 28 points and a dominant rebounding display. Both teams enter the weekend at 1–0.
Western Ballaz vs Belize City Defenders – Saturday, February 28, Victor Galvez Stadium
The Cayo Western Ballaz return home looking to rebound after their narrow loss to San Pedro. Glency “Coope” Lopez’s 23 points kept them competitive in Week 1, but Cayo will be aiming for a stronger defensive showing to avoid a 0–2 start.
The Belize City Defenders travel west after falling 82–65 to Orange Walk in their opener. The Defenders will be looking to steady their campaign and avoid back‑to‑back losses.
Orange Walk Running Rebels vs Griga Dream Ballers – Saturday, February 28, OW Complex
The Orange Walk Running Rebels opened their season with an impressive 82–65 win over the Defenders.
The EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers finally take the court for the first time this season after sitting out Week 1, so their level of play for 2026 is still unknown.
Corozal Spartans Rest This Weekend
After falling to Belmopan in their opener, the Corozal Spartans are the lone team inactive in Week 2. They return to action in Week 3.
