By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Nazarene High School girls’ softball team successfully defended their National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) Softball Championship title, defeating Belmopan Comprehensive School (Compre) 9-4 in Saturday’s final at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda, Toledo District.
The championship game lasted five innings due to tournament regulations. Nazarene dominated early, leading 9-2 in the top of the fifth inning. Though Compre scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Nazarene girls held their ground to secure their second consecutive championship title. Jaysha Weir, Nazarene’s ace pitcher, played an instrumental role throughout the tournament and was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The road to victory saw Nazarene defeat Ladyville Technical 12-10 in their opening match on Friday. In the second game, Compre overcame Independence High School 8-3, earning their spot in the finals.
Independence rebounded in the third-place match, decisively defeating Ladyville Technical 15-7.
The Nazarene girls deservedly celebrated back-to-back NSSSA titles.
