By Zoila Palma: On July 17, 2025, the National Women’s Commission (NWC) held its Inauguration Ceremony for the new Board of Commissioners at the best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City.
Attendees included Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Minister of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs; Rosanna Briceño, Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children; Adele Catzim-Sanchez, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs; Eleanor Murillo, Executive Director of the National Women’s Commission; and Kristina Romero, the newly appointed Chairperson of the National Women’s Commission.
The National Women’s Commission welcomed the newly inaugurated Commissioners, who represent various districts across the country and bring with them a wide range of knowledge, passion, and commitment to gender equity, equality and women’s empowerment.
Following the ceremony, the new Commissioners participated in an informative orientation session to learn more about the Commission’s mandate, strategic goals, and ongoing advocacy work.
