By Zoila Palma:  A nationwide road safety assessment covering 903 kilometres of Belize’s road network has been completed using the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) methodology, Minister of Infrastructure Julius Espat explained during his budget presentation.

The study evaluated 41 road sections and assigned star ratings from one to five, with one indicating high risk and five representing international best standards.

According to Espat, the government aims to ensure that all major highways achieve at least a three-star rating, with future expansion to secondary roads.

The assessment, conducted by Raurosmx S.A. de C.V., analyzed more than 52 safety attributes at 100-metre intervals, providing a data-driven framework for future maintenance and upgrades.
