National Meteorological Service issues tropical storm warning as Hurricane Beryl approaches Belize

By Horace Palacio: Belize is bracing for the impact of Hurricane Beryl, a major category 3 hurricane that is currently approaching the area. The National Meteorological Service (NMS) has issued a Small Craft Warning and a Tropical Storm Warning, advising residents to remain vigilant and prepared.

As of 6:00 AM today, Hurricane Beryl was located approximately 50 miles southwest of Grand Cayman and 431 miles east-northeast of Corozal Town. The hurricane is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 mph and is moving west-northwest at 21 mph.

The NMS forecasts cloudy skies with showers, thunderstorms, and periods of light rain over the country today and tonight. Marine conditions are expected to be rough, with winds gusting up to 20 knots and waves reaching 6-8 feet.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, secure loose objects, and stay informed about the latest updates from the NMS. The NMS will continue to closely monitor the progress of Hurricane Beryl and provide timely information to the public.

• Cloudy at times with showers, thunderstorms, and periods of light rain.
• Winds N-NW, 10-20 kts, gusty.
• Sea state rough, waves 6-8 ft.
• Temperatures: Coast 86°F/80°F (30°C/27°C), Inland 89°F/72°F (32°C/22°C), Hills 78°F/66°F (26°C/19°C).

• Variably cloudy skies with isolated showers and thunderstorms or periods of light rain developing.
• A few showers, thunderstorms, or periods of rain will affect the country on Friday night.
