By Zoila Palma: The National Meteorological Service of Belize (NMS) highlighted its role in building a more climate-resilient Belize during Climate Week 2026, using the four-day event to showcase how weather and climate information can support communities, livelihoods and national development.
Throughout the event, the NMS focused on several key areas, including the Orange Economy, agriculture and forests, blue spaces, and technology and innovation.
The Service demonstrated how climate services, systematic observations, the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) and early warning systems can help communities prepare for climate-related risks and strengthen resilience.
The NMS also used its booth to engage with partners, children and young people, as well as local and Indigenous communities.
Staff shared information about the Service’s work, answered questions and encouraged conversations about the importance of weather and climate information in everyday decision-making.
The NMS thanked everyone who visited its booth and participated in the Climate Week activities, noting that the event provided an opportunity to connect, share knowledge and learn from the communities it serves.
