By Zoila Palma: The National Institute of Culture & History (NICH) joins the Belizean creative community and fans in mourning the passing of Deon “Concego” Ogaldez – Artist, Songwriter and Producer.
“With his roots in the village of Hopkins, Concego made his entry into the music industry while still a teen. His undeniable passion and talent are evident in a string of hits such as “Siddong and Bounce”, “Sufrida” and “Namule”, among others. While his main genres were Punta Rock and Paranda, he was a versatile artist, also producing songs in Cumbia, Soca and Dancehall. He was known for his boisterous and energetic performances, at home in Belize and on international stages in the U.S., Mexico and Guatemala,” NICH stated.
Concego will also be remembered for his numerous collaborations, including with Aziatic, Taprick. TR Shine and “The General” Supa G.
In 2024, Concego collaborated with Yasthalia, TR Shine and Roxy on the National Celebrations hit “Belizean Party”, commissioned by the Office of the Prime Minister.
The Institute of Creative Arts (ICA) also remembers his dynamic contribution to the 2021 Belize-Taiwan Song Commission, with his song “Work Together” –a celebration of friendship and cultural diplomacy.
ICA says that while preparing for that project, they asked Concego for his vision and motivation. His proud response:
“My Culture above all, my People and the roots from which I was born.”
We extend our deepest condolences to his family. Rest in Power, Concego. “Punta Fi Life”
