By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Belize is set to embark on a transformative cultural and historical journey with a USD $98,600 grant from UNESCO.
The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) through its Institute for Social and Cultural Research (ISCR) will lead the project “Empowering Communities for the Safeguarding of Belize’s Foodways.”
According to NICH, this initiative will train 140 community members and cultural officers to document and protect Belize’s rich culinary heritage.
“By focusing on our vibrant local cuisines, we aim to inspire healthier eating habits among students and the wider community,” NICH noted.
Over the next two years, NICH-ISCR will bring this vision to life.
