National Institute of Culture and History discuss safeguarding Maya heritage with Northern Maya Association of Belize

By Zoila Palma:  On June 12, 2026, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) met with the Northern Maya Association of Belize (NMAB) to discuss the organization’s ongoing efforts in safeguarding Maya heritage.

Discussions centered on the exciting initiatives being led by NMAB members, including the safeguarding of living heritage, the Yucatec Maya language, the Maya Ball Game, and gardening projects aimed at strengthening community resilience.

NICH President Albert Vaughan congratulated the organization on its valuable work on behalf of Minister of Culture Francis Fonseca.
