By Zoila Palma: RISE Belize, the national coalition of youth-led networks and changemakers has officially written to Minister Anthony Mahler and Minister Devin Daly, calling for an open dialogue on the future of the Department of Youth Services.
“We believe that meaningful youth development must be built on transparency, accountability, and the active inclusion of young people in the national decision-making process. While we acknowledge and appreciate the leadership of the Ministry, we also recognize that there is an urgent need to ensure that the voices of young people are not just heard, but actively integrated into the systems and institutions that are meant to serve us,” RISE noted.
In their letter, RISE calls for a formal meeting to present youth-driven recommendations and to explore opportunities for genuine collaboration.
“We are extending our hand in partnership with respect, good faith, and a shared vision for the future of youth development in Belize,” RISE added.
RISE says that Belizean youth deserve more than token involvement “we deserve a seat at the table.”
“We are prepared to be part of the solution. Through constructive dialogue, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, we are ready to help shape a future where youth are seen, valued, and empowered,” RISE stated.
RISE further invites all youth leaders, youth-led groups, and networks across the country to stand with them.
