By Zoila Palma: The National Climate Change Office (NCCO), under the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, is hosting a multisectoral workshop to validate Belize’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Gap, Vulnerability, and Risk Assessment.
The two-day session, held from October 6–7, 2025, brings together representatives from government agencies, academia, and civil society to strengthen the country’s capacity to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in collaboration with the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) and the Ministry of Economic Transformation, the workshop is facilitated by consulting firm IDOM from Mexico.
Participants are reviewing assessment findings and identifying key adaptation measures for priority sectors, including agriculture, tourism, health, forestry, land use, and infrastructure.
Later this week, similar sessions will include stakeholders from the private sector, women’s groups, youth, indigenous communities, and other local organizations.
During his opening remarks, Deputy Chief Sumeet Betancourt underscored the importance of collaboration and inclusivity, noting that diverse perspectives are vital to shaping effective climate adaptation strategies across Belize.
