Press Release
(NAMLC) will convene its 3rd Annual Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Conference from February 23–25, 2026, at the Belize Civic Center. This year’s hybrid event, accommodating both in-person and virtual participation, is expected to host over 300 in-person attendees and 200 virtual participants, including compliance officers, regulatory authorities, law enforcement personnel, and other key public and private sector stakeholders.
The conference provides a platform for Belizean and international experts to discuss the latest developments, challenges, and best practices in Anti-Money Laundering, Countering Financing of Terrorism, and Countering Proliferation Financing (AML/CFT/CPF). This year’s conference is made possible through the steadfast support of all NAMLC agencies. Special recognition is extended to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) for its ongoing support to Belize’s authorities, including the Financial Intelligence Unit, in strengthening national capacity to combat financial crime.
The conference will open with ceremonies on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., featuring remarks from Senator Hon. Christopher Coye and the Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, Ms. Katharine Beamer. While the conference sessions are closed to the press, a brief opportunity for interviews will be available following the opening ceremony.
Established on February 7, 2014, NAMLC serves as Belize’s primary domestic coordination and cooperation mechanism for AML/CFT/CPF. The committee provides strategic advice to the Minister of Finance on the detection and prevention of money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing, develops national action plans, and coordinates Belize’s participation in international AML/CFT/CPF efforts. NAMLC comprises Belize’s key regulatory, prosecutorial, and law enforcement agencies.
Since its inception, NAMLC has overseen landmark achievements, including Belize’s successful Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) 4th Round Mutual Evaluation. NAMLC has been at the forefront of strengthening Belize’s AML/CFT/CPF framework. Under its guidance, Belize successfully completed the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) 4th Round Evaluation, becoming the second country globally to achieve “Compliant” or “Largely Compliant” ratings across all 40 FATF Recommendations on its first attempt. Belize also demonstrated “Substantial” effectiveness in five Immediate Outcomes, including a regional first in Proliferation Financing. These achievements allowed Belize to successfully avoid “grey” or “black” listing.
NAMLC continues to advance Belize’s AML/CFT/CPF framework through risk assessments, legislative updates, public-private sector engagement, and capacity-building initiatives, with the Annual AML/CFT Conference serving as a cornerstone of its outreach efforts
