By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Orange Walk’s Mi Gente of Guinea Grass advanced to the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship on Sunday, defeating the Calcutta Bulls 6-5 on aggregate score.
Mi Gente made it to the semifinal by defeating the homestanding Calcutta Bulls 4-3 at the Calcutta Football Field in Calcutta, Corozal. With that victory, Mi Gente overcame the previous week’s 2-2 draw in Orange Walk.
Mi Gente will now face Dangriga’s EZ Conquerors in the semifinals. The Conquerors qualified with a 4-2 penalty shootout over Belmopan’s Napoles after a 4-4 aggregate score. Napoles won the first leg 2-1, but on Sunday, the Conquerors leveled the series with their 3-2 win, forcing the penalty shootout.
The other semifinal will feature Legends FC of Toledo against San Pedro Terror Squad FC.
The Toledo Legends thrashed the defending champions Club Atletico 5-0 on Saturday night in Punta Gorda to win the quarterfinals 6-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw the previous week in Belmopan.
Meanwhile, San Pedro Terror Squad advanced to the semifinals on a 5-1 aggregate score over Conquerors, the other San Pedro side. Friday’s second leg at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro was a tight 1-1, but that didn’t affect Terror Squad as they had won the first encounter 4-0.
