By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The EZ Griga Conquerors beat Napoles 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the second leg of the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga and advanced to the semifinals.
The Griga Conquerors defeated the visiting Napoles 3-2 in regulation and tied the series 4-4 on aggregate, after the 2-1 win by Napoles the previous week in Belmopan, forcing the penalty shootout.
The Griga Conquerors will play Orange Walk’s Mi Gente in the semifinal. Mi Gente earlier eliminated the homestanding Calcutta Bulls 6-5 on aggregate. Mi Gente won the second leg 4-3 on Sunday at the Calcutta Football Field in Calcutta, Corozal, following a 2-2 draw the previous week in Orange Walk.
The other semifinal will feature Legends FC of Toledo against San Pedro Terror Squad FC.
The Toledo Legends stunned the defending champions Club Atletico 5-0 on Saturday night in Punta Gorda to advance to the semifinals on a 6-1 aggregate after a 1-1 draw the previous week in Belmopan.
Meanwhile, San Pedro Terror Squad made it to the semifinals on a 5-1 aggregate score over Conquerors, the other San Pedro side, at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro. Though Friday’s second leg was a very competitive 1-1 draw, Terror Squad had secured their semifinal ticket with a lopsided 4-0 win in the first leg.
