National Agriculture and Trade Show Committee announces Farmers of the Year 2026

By Zoila Palma:  The National Agriculture and Trade Show Committee has announced the winners of the 2026 Farmer of the Year Competition, recognizing three outstanding individuals from the Cayo District for their excellence in agriculture.

Taking top honors, Saulo Mesh was named Male Farmer of the Year, while Yoalma Pocasangre earned the title of Female Farmer of the Year.

The Junior Farmer of the Year award went to Jeshua Tzib.

All three awardees were recognized for their dedication, innovation, and commitment to strengthening Belize’s agricultural sector.

The Committee, operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, praised the winners for their contributions, noting that their efforts help ensure agriculture remains a vital pillar of the national economy.

The Committee also extended appreciation to all participants and judges involved in this year’s competition, as well as to farmers across the country whose ongoing work supports food security, rural livelihoods, and the overall well-being of Belize.

The public is encouraged to attend the upcoming National Agriculture and Trade Show 2026, scheduled to run from April 30 to May 3.

This year’s event will be held under the theme “Advancing Smart Agriculture: Building a Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Belizean Food System.”
