By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The stage is set for an electrifying battle in the Premier Women’s League Finals, as Sagitun GIRLZ and Napoles prepare to face off for the championship over the next two weekends.
Sagitun GIRLZ enter as the heavy favourites, having cruised through the regular season undefeated and securing victories over Napoles twice. But Napoles, ranked third in the regular season, proved their resilience by stunning defending champions Jewel Fury in a highly controversial semifinal series.
The championship battle kicks off at 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 25, with Napoles hosting Sagitun GIRLZ in the first leg of the Closing Championship Finals at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. The second and decisive match will take place on Saturday, May 31, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence.
Past Encounters and Road to the Final
Sagitun GIRLZ have dominated their previous meetings with Napoles. On March 29, they secured a 2-0 win with goals from Jolene ‘JoJo’ Aranda and Stephanie Barrientos. Then, on April 27, they clinched a hard-fought 3-2 victory, as Kenya Perez opened the scoring, Aranda doubled the lead, and later sealed the win in the 69th minute. Napoles had briefly leveled the match on strikes by captain Roshanny Narváez and Heidy Lopez.
Napoles, however, have proven their ability to rise in clutch moments. Their dramatic semifinal win against Jewel Fury saw Leg 2 played twice, adding fuel to an already contentious series. Meanwhile, Sagitun GIRLZ overwhelmed Cayo Dreamers in a staggering 24-0 aggregate win in their semifinal match.

The Final Awaits
Sagitun GIRLZ are no strangers to championship glory. Before the formation of the Premier Women’s League, they were a dominant force in the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL), securing multiple national titles. Their impressive track record culminated last year when they represented Belize in the Central American Women’s Champions Cup as the final NAWL champions.
This isn’t unfamiliar territory for Sagitun GIRLZ, who defeated Napoles in the June 2024 semifinals before falling short against Jewel Fury in the final. Now, with their sights set on redemption, they aim to capture the championship that eluded them last season.
Napoles, eager to complete their Cinderella run, will rely on key players like Roshanny Narváez and Jinnelle Pott Lopez, who helped turn their semifinal match into a nail-biting affair.
The battle lines are drawn—will Sagitun GIRLZ cement their season dominance, or will Napoles complete their underdog story?
Check out the first leg of the Finals Sunday at five at the Isidoro in Belmopan.
