By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Regular season champions Napoles FC will head into Sunday’s Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Final against defending champions Sagitun GIRLZ with the benefit of playing in their home city of Belmopan — even though the venue was predetermined by the FFB rather than earned through standings.
The Final will be played at the FFB Stadium, located over a mile from the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, Napoles’ usual home ground. While not their regular pitch, it remains familiar territory and a place where their supporters can gather without traveling far.
Napoles topped the regular season with 27 points, the most consistent team across the Opening Championship. Their semifinal performance reinforced that strength, edging Jewel Fury 4–3 on aggregate after a 2–1 win in the second leg at the Isidoro Beaton.
The rivalry with Sagitun GIRLZ adds even more weight to Sunday’s grand finale. Napoles defeated Sagitun 2–0 in Independence in the first round, but the champions struck back with a 2–1 win at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in the second. And while the Final’s location was set by the FFB, Napoles know they must be sharp — Sagitun have already beaten them in Belmopan, most recently on November 22 at the FFB Stadium. With both teams having beaten each other during the regular season, Sunday’s Final becomes the ultimate decider.
Now, with the title to be decided in a single match, Napoles are determined to make the most of playing in their home city. Last season, they fell to Sagitun in the two‑leg Closing Championship Final. This time, the script is different — one match, one stadium, one chance.
Belmopan fans are expected to turn out in force, and Napoles know the energy of a home‑city crowd can tilt the momentum in tight moments. Against a seasoned Sagitun side, every detail matters.
For Napoles, Sunday’s Final is more than a game — it’s an opportunity to lift their first PWLB title on Belmopan soil.
