By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Napoles FC completed their rise to the summit of Belizean women’s football on Saturday night, defeating defending champions Sagitun GIRLZ 2–0 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan to capture their first Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) title in just their second season. The championship victory was followed by the league’s full slate of individual and team awards, headlined by Napoles captain Roshanny Narváez, who was named Most Valuable Player of the 2025–2026 Opening Season.
Napoles take control late to dethrone the champions
The Final lived up to expectations, with both teams displaying discipline, physicality, and tactical organization in a match that could have gone either way. It was tight from start to finish — the kind of game where whoever scored first was always likely to win — and it was finally swayed when Narváez struck in the 87th minute. For much of the match, space was scarce and chances were limited as Napoles relied on the leadership of Narváez in midfield, while Sagitun leaned on the experience of Sabrina “Sabo” Eiley and the BWNT defensive pairing of Mikhaila Bowden and Shanté Chacón.

Despite the balance, Napoles gradually grew into the match, pushing higher and forcing Sagitun deeper as the second half wore on. Their patience finally paid off in the 87th minute.
Narváez received a pass from the deep right flank and controlled it at the right corner of the penalty box. With a deft touch, she shifted the ball from her right foot to her left, slipping past the defender who stepped in to close her down. She then unleashed a powerful left‑footed shot to the far side, beating goalkeeper Jasmin Armstrong. As the ball continued across goal, a Sagitun defender tried to kick it away but couldn’t make contact, and a recovering teammate also failed to clear. The shot blasted into the net.
Sagitun GIRLZ attempted to respond immediately, pushing numbers forward in search of the equalizer, but their attacks lacked precision and never truly troubled goalkeeper Angelica López, who remained composed throughout the match.
Napoles nearly doubled the lead twice — first through Jayda Brown in the 87th and then through Narváez in the 89th — before finally sealing the title deep into stoppage time.
In the 93rd minute, Brown broke free on the left, outran the last defender, beat Armstrong to the ball, and hammered her shot into the open net to make it 2–0. The strike sealed the championship and sent the Napoles supporters into celebration.
When the final whistle sounded at 96:24, Napoles FC had completed a historic climb — from newcomers to champions in just two seasons.
