By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 33-year-old Belize City man is out on bail after police say he ran naked from a house while attempting to dispose of more than two pounds of marijuana.
Police identified the accused as Japheth Danny Bennett, a barber, mechanic, body works operator and fisherman of Partridge Street Extension. Bennett was arraigned late Friday evening at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday, December 18, 2025, around 12:55 p.m., when officers attached to GI3 proceeded to a residence on Partridge Street Extension based on information received.
Upon arrival, police observed a brown-skinned male run out of a grey zinc structure house fully nude, jump from a wooden verandah, and run behind a parked black vehicle while holding a white towel and a transparent plastic bag. Officers reported seeing the man throw the plastic bag into a nearby bushy lot.
Police approached the suspect, who then wrapped the white towel around himself. He was later identified as Japheth Bennett. When questioned about the contents of the bag he discarded, police say Bennett responded, “Nothing, officer.”
Officers conducted a search of the bushy area and retrieved the transparent plastic bag, which contained dark vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis. The substance was later weighed and amounted to 2.20 pounds of marijuana, police said.
Bennett appeared unrepresented in Court #2, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. With no objection from the prosecution, the Senior Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount, which he was able to meet.
Bennett’s next court date is set for February 6, 2025.
