MVP Esmond Sanker shines as Yabra win BDFA Under-17 Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Esmond Sanker was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) as Yabra emerged victorious in the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) Under-17 Championship, securing a one-sided 4-1 penalty shootout win over Berger United. The final, held at the Marion Jones Sports Complex on Saturday, December 28, ended in a 2-2 draw in regulation time, leading to a decisive shootout.

Sanker was the standout player of the match, scoring two crucial goals for Yabra in the 45^th and 60^th minutes. Sanker led the shootout scoring the first penalty followed by teammates Tyrone Linarez, Calvin Thurton, and Michael Martinez.

Berger United’s Zaahir Martin scored for Berger United in regulation time while Zaahir Martin did so in the shootout.

Sanker’s performance, which included scoring two goals during regulation time and another in the shootout, helped him earn the MVP award for his outstanding contributions.

Other special awards were also presented:

• Calvin Thurton received the Most Goals Award for his remarkable contributions throughout the championship.
• Hayden Gibson of Berger United was honored with the Best Goalkeeper Award for his exceptional performance between the posts.
