By Horace Palacio: Musician Elmer Keme is in stable condition after being shot by customs officers during a suspected contraband operation at the Santa Rosa landing area on Saturday, March 9th.
Officers responding to a shooting report found Keme, 32, of Chan Chen village, with gunshot wounds at the Corozal Community Hospital. Customs officers allege they were conducting routine checks when a suspicious pickup truck approached. Keme allegedly refused to stop, and swerved towards officers, prompting them to open fire.
Keme fled on foot but was apprehended. An active investigation is underway, with Keme’s vehicle, officers’ weapons, and scene data collected as evidence.
