By Aaron Humes: Police have made an arrest in the murder of Archibald Ferrill Jr., apprehending 23-year-old Dixon Noel Caceres, a Belizean laborer from Bella Vista Village, and formally charging him with the crime of murder.
Ferrill was killed on December 25, shot multiple times on a street in the village. Police have said generally that ongoing issues with the sale of illegal drugs are behind an increase in criminal activity in the Intermediate Southern Formation area, with multiple murders in Bella Vista and Independence since August.
Bella Vista saw four murders in six months, including that of Ferrill, with the violence spreading to Independence on New Year’s Eve when one man, Keith Logan, was critically wounded and six others injured; Logan died on New Year’s morning.
