Multi-Department teams support Immigration Ministry mobile hub in Belize City

By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour (MIGL) brought essential immigration and passport services directly to Belize City residents through a two-day mobile hub held on January 24 and 25 at the Gateway Youth Center.

Public officers from several departments worked together during the weekend outreach, processing passport renewals and first-time applications, nationality matters, permanent residence services, and border-related documentation.

Assistant Director of the Nationality and Passport Department Kimberly Timmons said the initiative reflects strong inter-departmental coordination and a continued commitment to improving access to services.

She explained that the Ministry introduced mobile service delivery in 2023 to reach people who face challenges visiting offices during regular hours, allowing residents to complete multiple processes in a single, community-based location.

Operational support was provided by the Department of Border Management and Immigration Services, with officers offering guidance on immigration status and residency options.

Minister of Immigration, Governance and Labour Kareem Musa visited the hub and commended staff for their weekend service, while the Ministry also acknowledged Minister of State and Collet Area Representative Devin Daly for supporting community outreach.

The Ministry said similar mobile hubs will continue nationwide as part of MIGL’s strategy to improve efficiency, coordination, and public access to services.
