By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 46-year-old man from San Marcos Village died following a motorcycle collision between Duck Run 1 and Billy White Village in the Cayo District early Saturday morning.
Police said the accident was reported shortly before midnight on Friday, August 21.
The deceased was identified as Jaime Haroldo Catalan, 46, who was found motionless in the middle of the road. His motorcycle was located nearby with damage to the front headlamp, front fork, handlebar and rear light.
Police investigations indicate that Catalan was travelling toward Billy White when another motorcyclist, identified as Javier Pinelo, 26, of Bullet Tree Village, allegedly overtook him.
Due to oncoming traffic, Pinelo swerved in front of Catalan, causing Catalan to collide with the rear of Pinelo’s motorcycle.
Catalan sustained head and bodily injuries and later succumbed to them.
Pinelo also sustained injuries and was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital.
Police subsequently obtained a blood specimen from Pinelo.
He was detained under police guard, issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution and remained at the hospital.
