By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two men were killed in separate motorcycle accidents on Saturday: one in Cayo and another on the Hummingbird Highway, marking yet another tragic weekend on Belize’s roads.
The first victim, Gerson Fuyub, reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a cement structure in Cayo. He was rushed to the La Loma Luz Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
ACP Hilberto Romero confirmed that police are still awaiting results from a toxicology test to determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash. It is also not yet known if the victim was wearing a helmet.
Later that same day, officers responded to another motorcycle accident along the Hummingbird Highway. The rider, Jorge Gonzalez, was found unconscious near a damaged motorcycle. He was transported for treatment but died from his injuries. Investigators say Gonzalez also lost control and fell onto the roadway.
Police are urging all motorcyclists to wear helmets, slow down, and remain vigilant on the nation’s highways to prevent further loss of life.
