By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A young deliveryman from Guinea Grass Village is recovering in the Northern Regional Hospital after a frightening accident caused by what he says was reckless driving by an unknown pickup driver.
19-year-old John Carlos Urbina told police he was heading home on his motorcycle early Saturday afternoon when a white pickup barreled around a curve and entered his lane at the village entrance. With no time to react, Urbina swerved hard right to avoid being hit head-on, sending him crashing onto the roadside.
He hit the pavement, suffering visible head injuries and intense pain throughout his back and upper body. Hospital staff say he is stable but must remain under observation.
The pickup driver, however, never stopped.
Residents say the curve where the accident occurred has long been a danger zone due to careless speeding by motorists. Urbina’s family is now calling for the driver to be identified and for police to increase patrols in the area before another young life is lost.
Police continue their investigation, and documents for the motorcycle are still being gathered.
