By Breaking Belize News Staff: A mother and son accused of carrying out a brutal machete and knife attack on the mother’s lover were back in court on Thursday but remain behind bars after their matter was adjourned once more.

Prunella White, 38, a cook, and her 19-year-old son, Jermaine Belisle, a construction worker, both of Central American Boulevard, appeared shortly before 11:00 a.m. in Court #1 before the Chief Magistrate. With no bail granted, they were further remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 26, 2026.

The pair were first arraigned on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6. Thursday, in his absence, they were taken before another magistrate for their second court appearance in the attempted murder case.

They are jointly charged with one count each of attempted murder upon 36-year-old Samira Gentle, a forklift operator of North Creek, Belize City. Gentle is reportedly White’s lover.

Police reports indicate that on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers responded to information from the Police Control Room of a female being stabbed on Central American Boulevard and transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

Police visited the Accident and Emergency section of the hospital where they observed Gentle lying face up on a bed, unconscious and suffering from multiple stab and chop wounds to the body. She was listed in critical condition.

Initial investigations revealed that around midnight, Gentle had been socializing and drinking with White when an argument reportedly broke out between the two women. Police say the dispute escalated into a violent confrontation during which White allegedly grabbed a machete and inflicted several chop wounds to Gentle’s body. It is further alleged that Belisle armed himself with a knife and stabbed Gentle multiple times to the chest.

Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area and reportedly recovered a brown-handled kitchen knife measuring approximately 12 inches, along with a green and grey Total-brand machete with a metal blade measuring about 32 inches. Blood swabs were also collected from the scene.

Police say that while officers were on the scene, White surrendered herself to police and was escorted to the Queen Street Police Station. Authorities report that during a recorded interview in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, White admitted to chopping Gentle with a machete. She later provided a caution statement.

Based on the investigation and her statement, both White and her son were jointly charged with attempted murder.

Their case is set to return to court on May 26, 2026.
