By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Honduran champions FC Motagua, El Ciclón Azul, touched down in Belize on Monday, 28 July, ahead of their opening match in the 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup against Verdes FC. The fixture is set for Tuesday, 29 July, at 6:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
Motagua, winners of the 2024–2025 Honduran Opening Season, are staying at the Ramada by Wyndham Princess Belize City, a waterfront hotel known for hosting visiting teams and dignitaries. The squad is expected to hold a light training session before travelling inland for the Group C encounter.
Tuesday’s match marks the start of a demanding campaign for both clubs. Verdes, Belize’s most decorated side, are aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time, while Motagua enter the tournament as one of the favourites, boasting deep experience in Concacaf competitions.
The Group C lineup also includes Deportivo Saprissa and CS Cartaginés of Costa Rica, and Panama’s CA Independiente. Verdes will host Saprissa on 5 August, before travelling to Panama and Costa Rica later in the month.
Motagua’s arrival signals the start of a high-stakes week in Belizean football, with Verdes hoping to make home advantage count against one of Central America’s most formidable clubs.
