Moses “Shyne” Barrow resumes judicial review challenge of color allocation for 2025 general election

By Aaron Humes: The application made before the March 12 general election related to the decision of the Election and Boundaries Commission (EBC) to recognize candidates other those aligned with the United Democratic Party (UDP) as it was, on the ballot with traditional red, is proceeding in court.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, who filed the application while still officially Party leader, asks the court to overturn the decision on Constitutional grounds as infringement of the right to freedom of association, breach of natural justice, irrational and unreasonable and done in bad faith.

In his supporting affidavit, Barrow contends that the non-Barrow UDP candidates, particularly those led by Tracy Panton, gained an undue advantage by being named with the UDP despite not being pre-selected for candidacy (by endorsement or contested convention). As he predicted, it resulted in confusion among the electorate and a split in the vote which enhanced the People’s United Party’s repeat victory. Barrow’s section won 10,000 more votes but one fewer seat and he lost his seat of Mesopotamia to Lee Mark Chang.

Communication from the Attorney General has suggested it will seek further time to respond to the claim.
