By Aaron Humes: Moses “Shyne” Barrow has condemned what he calls the “criminal” behavior of supporters of Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar-Panton outside United Democratic Party headquarters on Saturday during the National Party Council meeting scheduled for ten in the morning.
Of 118 members of the UDP NPC, only 11 were in attendance, barely a tenth of the population and well short of quorum at 59.
But according to Barrow, the agenda would have seen “forgiveness” of Taegar-Panton and her supporters – allowing them to rejoin the party and participate in a program of reunification, reset and redirection as a united Opposition.
Instead, he saw behavior that “horrified” him and convinced him that as much as he would want to, he could not safely trust the UDP in the hands of those who he said acted “no better than a banana republic, no better than the Cartel who act outside the bounds of the law.”
The next steps for the party are uncertain as the National Convention is tentatively set for October 5 but must be preceded by constituency conventions and other procedures.
