By Horace Palacio: Starting April 1st, 2025, visitors will have double the daylight hours to explore one of Belize’s most treasured archaeological sites. The Institute of Archaeology has announced extended operating hours for the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve, with gates now opening from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
The move comes in response to growing public interest and increasing tourist visits. Located on a hilltop overlooking San Ignacio, Cahal Pech is a favorite for its compact size, panoramic views, and immersive walk through ancient Maya structures.
Officials say the updated schedule is designed to better accommodate early-bird adventurers, school field trips, and tour operators who want more flexibility. The site will now be accessible on all days of the week, including holidays, making it more convenient for both locals and international visitors.
The Institute is urging guests to take advantage of the added hours to fully absorb the rich cultural and historical significance of the site—whether it’s for photography at sunrise or tranquil exploration at sunset.
