By Aaron Humes: In as many days, three lives were tragically lost in separate motorcycle accidents on the nation’s highways. The incidents have left law enforcement investigating the causes behind these latest crashes.
The first incident occurred along the George Price Highway, specifically between miles fifty-two and fifty-three, during the early hours of Friday, October 17. According to police, Derrel Montero, 25, and his riding companion, Shawn Armstrong, were traveling on a motorcycle when Montero reportedly lost control and collided with a guardrail. Responding officers from the Roaring Creek Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident. They discovered both riders had sustained serious injuries. Montero was pronounced dead after being transported to the Western Regional Hospital, while Armstrong is currently hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition.
Staff Officer ASP Stacy Smith provided further details: “Upon arrival at approximately 3:30 a.m., we observed two male persons with injuries consistent with a road traffic accident. Preliminary investigations indicate that Montero was the driver and lost control before the collision.”
