By Zoila Palma: Last night, the Cancha Marshalleck came alive with color, music, and tradition as Mopan Technical High School hosted its vibrant Tarde Cultural 2025.
The event themed: “Raices- A cultural evening” featured a variety of presentations, including storytelling, cultural dances, and a special performance by the Chatonna, which thrilled the audience and celebrated Belize’s rich multicultural heritage.
Students from First to Fourth Form showcased their creativity through beautifully designed cultural booths representing the Mestizo, Maya, Garifuna, East Indian, Taiwanese, Lebanese, Mennonite, and other ethnic groups.
Each booth displayed traditional foods, crafts, and attire, giving visitors an immersive cultural experience.
One of the highlights of the evening was the Finados altar, a meaningful display honoring the long-standing Belizean tradition of remembering departed loved ones.
Storytelling sessions brought to life the haunting tales of La Llorona, while students in elaborate costumes portrayed folkloric figures such as El Duende, El Coco, and La Catrina, captivating the crowd with their creativity and performance.
The event was a true celebration of unity in diversity, showcasing the pride and cultural richness of Mopan Technical High School and our Belizean community.
