By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Meteorological Service of Belize says moist and somewhat unstable conditions continue to prevail over the country, supporting showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day.
The 24-hour forecast calls for sunny skies with some cloudy spells today and cloudy conditions at times tonight. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur mainly along coastal, offshore, and southern areas this morning and tonight. By this afternoon, showery activity is expected to move inland, affecting some central and western parts of the country.
Winds will blow from the north to northeast at 5 to 15 knots, and the sea state will be slight with waves between one to three feet. High temperatures today will reach around 87 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 91 degrees inland, and 80 degrees in the hills. Tonight, temperatures will fall to 76 degrees along the coast, 72 inland, and 67 in the hills.
At 6:00 a.m., Tropical Storm Melissa was located near latitude 14.3 north and longitude 73.5 west, or about 305 miles south-southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The system was moving west-northwest at 2 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. The National Meteorological Service says this system does not pose any immediate threat to Belize but will continue to be monitored.
Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on Thursday and Thursday night.
Tides for today will be high at 10:39 a.m., low at 4:12 p.m., and high again at 9:56 p.m. The next low tide will occur at 5:15 a.m. tomorrow. The sun will rise at 5:47 a.m. and set at 5:26 p.m., while the moon will rise at 6:39 a.m. and set at 6:07 p.m.
