By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize continues to experience moist and unstable conditions this Thursday as a tropical wave moves across the region. The forecast calls for cloudy skies with brief periods of sunshine during the day, becoming cloudy at times tonight. Rain, showers, and a few isolated thunderstorms are expected this morning across the country, particularly along coastal and offshore areas. While activity is expected to ease slightly this afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will redevelop tonight, mainly over southern and some coastal regions.
At sea, conditions remain relatively calm. Winds are light and variable, with seas slight to light chop and wave heights between one to four feet. Temperatures today will reach 85 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 88 inland, and 79 in the hills. Tonight, temperatures will fall to 76 along coastal communities, 73 inland, and 67 in the higher elevations.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Gabrielle continues its west-northwestward track across the Atlantic. At 3:00 am, the storm was located near latitude 20.0N, longitude 50.3W, or about 845 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Gabrielle is moving at 15 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. The system poses no threat to Belize.
Looking ahead to Friday, skies will remain cloudy at times with generally isolated showers and thunderstorms. A few more showers and storms are expected over the south on Friday and across most areas by Friday night, especially in the south.
