Belize’s M&M Engineering Cycling Team, led by veteran international competitor Roque Matus, made a confident showing in the opening stage of the Masters Tour of Colombia on Wednesday, with riders holding their own against a deep regional field.
Masters C Category: Matus and Stewart in the Mix
Roque Matus, team owner and captain, finished 15th in the Masters C category, clocking the same time as stage winner Enrique Quiñones of Team Aroma Pub. Matus and teammate Robert Liam Stewart, who finished 57th, were part of a tightly packed 70-man peloton that completed the 77.5-kilometer (48.44-mile) stage in 1 hour 51 minutes flat, averaging a brisk 41.89 km/h (26.18 mph)
Matus also earned third place in the intermediate station prizes, collecting three points—just behind Quiñones, who topped the tally with eight. Ryan Willoughby, also representing M&M Engineering, crossed the line in 76th, trailing the peloton by 9 minutes and 25 seconds with a time of 2:00:25.

Masters D Category: Butler and Wagner Finish in Field Sprint
In the Masters D category, Kenneth Butler secured 25th place in a mass sprint finish, matching the winning time of 1:52:01 set by Wilson Hernández of Construciones ZEA. The race saw 62 riders finish together, maintaining an average speed of 41.51 km/h (25.84 mph) over the same 77.5-kilometer course. Michael Wagner, also riding for M&M Engineering, placed 60th with the same time.
Tour Structure and What’s Next
The Vuelta a Colombia Senior Master 2025 that started Wednesday in Villavicencio, has drawn over 400 cyclists from across Latin America and beyond. This five-stage tour caters to master-age athletes—men and women aged 30 to 65—competing across five age-based categories (A through E). Category A riders will cover approximately 340 kilometers over the course of the event, which runs from September 3–7.
Thursday’s second stage is an individual time trial. With Matus known for his consistency in regional tours, the Belizean squad will be looking to build on their solid start and climb the standings.
