By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): As part of its broader road safety strategy, the Ministry of Transport has confirmed that stricter traffic laws—specifically targeting motorcycle use and licensing- will soon be presented to the House of Representatives.
Williams stated that the Cabinet has already approved the proposed legislative reforms, which aim to tighten regulations for motorcycle licensing and enhance penalties for non-compliance.
“These new laws will address key issues on our highways related to the use of motorcycles,” he said, emphasizing that improved legislation will only be one part of the solution.
“Legislative intervention alone will not solve this problem,” Williams warned. “It will require the dedicated and committed efforts of all road users to follow traffic laws and adopt a stronger road safety mindset, one that values not just personal safety, but also the safety of others.”
The ministry’s proactive stance follows a spike in motorcycle-related fatalities, including multiple deadly crashes in recent weeks. Officials hope that these combined efforts: education, enforcement, and legislation, will help reverse the trend and save lives.
