Ministry of Rural Transformation recognizes Rural Development strides in 2024!

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This week marks a significant stride in the mission of Rural Transformation across the country, with dedicated efforts to enhance the lives of rural communities. 

Minister for Rural Transformation, Community Development Labour, and Local Government, Oscar Requena has spearheaded a pivotal meeting with the National Association for Village Councils (NAVCO) Board to strategize and collaborate on the ongoing initiatives.

In addition, the Southern Well-rig team is diligently working on drilling a production well in the village of Dolores. 

“This initiative aims to revolutionize water access, ensuring a sustainable and improved supply for the residents of the village,” the Ministry noted.

The dedicated team is also distributing water to residents in San Jose, Toledo as their water system faces a temporary setback due to generator issues. 

The Ministry is swift in action, actively sourcing a generator to expedite the restoration of water services for the community.

Additionally, ongoing repairs for road access leading to the San Jose Rural Water System in the Toledo District are underway, exemplifying a holistic approach to community development.

Simultaneously, Rural Community Development Officers (RCDOs) in the Cayo, Belize, and Stann Creek Districts are actively engaged in conducting site visits. 

Collaborating with the team from the Social Investment Fund (SIF) under the IDB Disinfection Project, these officers are on the frontline, ensuring the seamless execution of essential projects.

The Ministry also noted that the Guinea Grass Rural Water System project is undergoing extensive rehabilitation to fortify its infrastructure, guaranteeing a reliable water supply for the surrounding areas.

“The tireless efforts of the Rural Transformation team underscore the commitment to improving the quality of life in rural areas, fostering sustainable development, and ensuring that no community is left behind. As these initiatives continue to unfold, it is evident that a wave of positive change is sweeping across the country,” the Ministry expressed.
