By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, and Local Government officially inaugurated a new water system expansion in Pomona Village, Stann Creek District, on July 4, marking a major investment in rural infrastructure.
The project is designed to provide residents with a safe, reliable, and resilient water supply, addressing longstanding water shortages, particularly during the dry season.
The upgraded system features an independent, solar-powered water source equipped with a 40,000-liter ground-level reservoir, a newly constructed pump house, and a backup diesel generator with full electrical components.
The ministry also donated pipes, fittings, and other plumbing materials to the local water board, enabling it to expand water services as the village continues to grow and ensuring a dependable supply for both existing and future households.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Osmond Martinez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation and representative of the Office of the Prime Minister, along with Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, and Local Government, Rodwell Ferguson, Area Representative for Stann Creek West, Chief Executive Officer Valentino Shal, and members of the village council and water board.
