Ministry of Rural Transformation, ‘Connecting Communities and Empowering Lives’

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Recently, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government Oscar Requena along with Rodwell Ferguson, Area Representative for Stann Creek West and Ministry personnel handed over 365 lengths of 4-inch pipes to the Santa Rosa and San Roman Water Board, marking a significant step toward advancement for their rural water system. 

This crucial moment is in connection of a newly drilled production well to the reservoir, restoring life to the villages.

The Ministry noted that construction on a modernized pump house, as well as essential electrical upgrades, is set to begin.

“The integration of the Rural water system with the BEL power grid not only ensures sustainability, but also represents a transition to greener energy, moving away from generator powering, which had previously been a challenge in operating the pump house,” the Ministry noted.

The Ministry is funding this transformative project with a total investment of $80,000.00. 

“Thanks to Hon. Rodwell Ferguson’s relentless dedication, the Area Representative office has generously contributed an additional $40,000.00 to this initiative,” the Ministry added.

The Ministry says that it is pleased to be a catalyst for strengthening communities.

This initiative not only provides access to important resources, but it also lays the groundwork for Santa Rosa and San Roman residents to cultivate a sustainable, empowered community.
