By Zoila Palma: During cabinet’s meeting on February 10, 2026, cabinet approved a project by the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics, along with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), to implement the Least Cost Rural Electrification Plan.
This plan is designed to identify and prioritize cost-effective electrification in rural communities.
It will include grid extension, renewable based mini-grids, and standalone systems to ensure optimal investments.
It will address the remaining electrification gaps while supporting #PlanBelize’s commitment to the national development priorities to improve rural living through universal access to electricity.
