By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Several areas around Belize are still flooded, though water levels are decreasing in some areas, according to Wednesday’s flood forecast issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining at 3:00 pm. The forecast maintains a severe flood warning for Belize River Valley communities and a flood warning for areas along the northern and central rivers and tributaries.
The report states that the Crooked Tree causeway is still impassable, while the San Ignacio-Santa Elena Low-Lying Bridge and the Iguana Creek Bridge on the Spanish Lookout Road remain closed.

The forecast includes alerts and warnings for various regions and rivers across Belize, highlighting the potential for severe flooding and advising residents to exercise caution.
Alerts and Warnings:
- Severe Flood Warning: In effect for the Belize River and its tributaries. Flooding conditions continue in the Belize River Valley and downstream communities. The causeway at Crooked Tree is impassable.
- Flood Warning: In effect for the northern and central rivers and their tributaries, including the Rio Hondo, Mopan River, and rivers of the Eastern Slopes of the Maya Mountains. The San Ignacio Low-Lying Bridge and Iguana Creek Bridge remain closed.
Region-Specific Updates:
- Region 7: Residents are advised to monitor waterways and exercise caution. Increased flood stage expected on the Rio Hondo at Blue Creek North, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, and at San Roman. Flood stage levels are expected to persist from Douglas Rio Hondo to the coast.
- The New River at Hill Bank, Tower Hill, and Caledonia to the coast is expected to persist at bankfull stage levels.
- Region 9: Residents are advised to monitor waterways and exercise extreme caution. Increased flood stage expected on the Mopan River at Benque Viejo del Carmen. The Macal River at Fortis facilities (Chalillo, Mollejon, and VACA) is expected to remain above normal levels, while the levels at San Ignacio should remain under the Low-Lying Bridge.
- The Belize River at More Tomorrow is expected to continue decreasing, but at Double Run, flood stage levels are increasing and are expected to reach as high as during the historical TD 16.
- Meanwhile, the Crooked Tree Lagoon remains flooded, with levels covering the causeway and still rising.
- Region 11: Residents are advised to monitor waterways and exercise caution. The Sibun River at Freetown Sibun is expected to continue decreasing to bankfull. The Southern Lagoon at Gales Point Village, which is above normal, is expected to continue decreasing. Watersheds on the Eastern Slopes of the Maya Mountains and the Sittee River at Kendal Bridge are expected to remain above normal.
- Region 13: The Sarstoon River is expected to continue above normal levels.
