Ministry of Labour raises awareness on World Day Against Child Labour 2026

By Zoila Palma:  World Day Against Child Labour 2026 is observed annually on June 12.

This year, in observance of World Day Against Child Labour 2026, the Labour Department’s Child Labour Desk, led by Aida Reyes and her team, participated in the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic School Educational Expo in Corozal.

This year’s theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,” calls on all to protect children from labour that interferes with their education, health, and development while promoting decent work opportunities for adults.

The Ministry noted that throughout the expo, students, parents, teachers, and stakeholders visited the Labour Department’s booth to learn more about children’s rights and the importance of preventing child labour.

The Labour Department says that it remains proud to support initiatives that promote and protect the rights of children.

“Our children are the future leaders of Belize, and together we can ensure they remain in school, enjoy their childhood, and reach their full potential.

As part of this year’s observance, Labour Officer Sujelli Ku and Employment Officer Perla Coba also conducted a Child Labour Education and Time Management Session at Sarteneja La Inmaculada RC Primary School, further extending awareness efforts throughout the Corozal District,” the Ministry said.

The Labour Department extended its appreciation to the Corozal team for their dedication and hard work in making these activities a success.
