The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing advises the public of a short-term closure of the George Price Highway Mile 45, at the Mount Pleasant Creek, near the entrance of Belmopan. Incessant rains in Belmopan, Las Flores, and surrounding areas in the Cayo District has precipitated the closure of the highway, as flood waters have overtopped the highway and made passage unsafe.
The period of closure will be until flood waters reduce to a safe level and the MIDH has had opportunity to assess any damages. Depending on the severity and duration of the rains the closure is anticipated to last from 4 to 12 hours.
Motorists are advised to plan their trip accordingly as there is no other safe alternate route into and out of Belmopan in the direction of Belize City.
Please continue to be vigilant and exercise caution while driving. Please be aware of all warning signs and heed the caution of traffic management personnel. Courtesy to other road users is always appreciated.
