Ministry of Human Development strongly condemns sexual violence against children; call for thorough investigations into all allegations

By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs, along with the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC), has issued a strong statement condemning all acts of sexual violence against children in Belize.

Following recent disturbing reports of abuse involving both boys and girls, the Ministry expressed “deepest outrage” and called for swift justice, community vigilance, and stronger protection systems for vulnerable children.

“Sexual violence against children is a grave violation of their rights, dignity, and well-being… Such acts must never be excused or minimized, regardless of the alleged perpetrator’s social, political, or professional standing,” the Ministry stated.

They are urging law enforcement to act quickly, the judiciary to impose proper sentences, and communities to break the silence and support survivors. 

“The Ministry and the NCFC call on:

• Law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough and immediate investigations into all allegations of child sexual abuse.
• The judiciary to ensure proper and timely sentencing that reflects the seriousness of these crimes and prioritizes the protection of children,” a statement said.

The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to child protection, survivor support, and public education.
