By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs has taken purposeful steps to shine light where it’s needed most.

Across the country, the Ministry is raising awareness, strengthening prevention, and expanding support for families experiencing gender-based violence.

Actions include:

* National and municipal flag raising ceremonies – standing together in solidarity with survivors.

* Marches and community mobilization events – bringing visibility to the issue in every municipality.

* Public consultations and community dialogues – giving the public a voice in shaping stronger protection laws.

* Gender-based violence awareness sessions – reaching youth, parents, workplaces, and community groups.

* Support service outreach booths – connecting families with real resources and trained professionals.

* Partnership building with civil society, municipalities, and organizations committed to prevention and protection.

* And most importantly, the introduction of the Domestic Violence Act Amendment to Parliament, a major step toward strengthening legal protections and ensuring survivors receive the justice and safety they deserve.

“These 16 Days are more than a campaign , they’re a commitment to building safer homes, stronger families, and a Belize where no one suffers in silence,” the Ministry said.
