By Zoila Palma:  On February 18, 2026, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, confirmed 2 cases of tuberculosis (TB): one involving a student at Edward P. Yorke High School and the other involving a student at Ephesus Primary School.

The Ministry noted that both students have been started on treatment and are responding well. Contact tracing and screening are currently underway in accordance with national TB guidelines.

TB is spread through prolonged close contact with an infected person. Symptoms include a persistent cough (lasting more than 2 weeks), fever, night sweats, weight loss, and fatigue.

Free TB screening, testing, and treatment are available at all public health facilities nationwide.

The Ministry urges anyone experiencing persistent symptoms to seek medical evaluation.

The Ministries continue to monitor the situation and remain committed to protecting the health and well-being of our students and communities.
