By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Health and Wellness through the National Drug Abuse Control Council-MOHW (NDACC) Stann Creek and Toledo Offices, in collaboration with the District Agriculture Departments and UNICEF Belize, has launched an innovative prevention education Program across 6 primary schools in southern Belize.
This initiative, part of the NDACC-MOHW Alternative to Substance Misuse Program for Children, uses School Gardening as a Coping Mechanism and Healthy Living Practice to promote sustainable agriculture and engage students in a dynamic learning environment.
“Through hands-on gardening activities and interactive lessons, the initiative builds a foundation for embracing a drug-free lifestyle. It also equips children and their families with tools to support physical, emotional, and mental well-being,” MOHW noted.
