By Zoila Palma:  On May 3, 2026, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology announced a new fuel subsidy aimed at supporting school bus operators affected by rising diesel prices.

The measure, which takes immediate effect and is retroactive to April 13, 2026, provides a payment of BZ$3.00 per gallon of diesel to eligible operators.

The Ministry said the subsidy was calculated using an average fuel consumption rate of seven miles per gallon, applied across established bus routes.

The ministry stated that the initiative is designed to ease operational costs, maintain reliable transportation for students, and reinforce public confidence in the education system.
