By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Recently, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) partnered with the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations to launch the Belize Music Project.
Operating under the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) and within MoECST, the Belize Music Project aims to document Belize’s diverse musical history with the mission of connecting younger generations of Belizean artists and music lovers with their cultural roots.
The project aims to archive over 100 years of recorded music from Belizeans of the past.
The Belize Music Project has begun researching and archiving all the influential Belizean artists who have recorded their music on different audio technologies that are no longer in mainstream usage.
Tracking down all those sonic creations is an ambitious venture, but the Music Project hopes to connect younger generations of Belizean artists and music lovers with their proud cultural roots.
